VITAMIN C

SKIN BENEFITS:

Provides antioxidant action to defend skin from free radical damage, the top cause of visible aging.

Stimulates the production of collagen, the protein that makes skin firm, taut, smooth, and resistant to wrinkles and sagging.

Fades or prevents hyperpigmentation (dark spots), and improves skin tone.

Minimizes inflammation, redness, and enhances wound healing.

VITAMIN C MYTHS:

The biggest myth I've seen about this amazing ingredient is that its present in oils such as Sea Buckthorn, Rose Hips, Marula, Cucumber, (and more, but these are the most common), and in essential oils such as Lemon, Orange, and Grapefruit. It's not.

Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, and while it may be high in these fruits, in the watery flesh, it doesn't translate to the oils pressed from the fruit or seed. These are excellent oils for skin, but they don't contain any Vitamin C.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR:

If you're looking for all-natural ingredients that contain Vitamin C, look for products that contain it in high amounts (kakadu plum, rose hips, sea buckthorn). Because they are extracts or juices, they contain the water soluble parts of the fruits, which contain the Vitamin C.

* If you're looking for Vitamin C with higher potency, lab synthesized versions like Ascorbic Acid, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP), and Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (TA) have higher rates of activity in skin and are more likely to produce visible results. We use TA which is the most stable version and the most potent, while also being the most gentle. TA is lypophylic, meaning it is oil-soluble, which reaches both the epidermis and the dermis, where it can protect with it's antioxidant power, but also reaches the dermis, where it can stimulate collagen production, all while being gentle and non-irritating.

FOR BEST RESULTS:

Apply products that include Vitamin C to freshly exfoliated skin to enhance it's absorption.

For an ingredient such as TA, there's no need for harsh exfoliates that damage the skin barrier. A gentle scrub or exfoliating mask will do.
