When I formulate, I consider physiology, how skin will use the ingredients, and I create using the same goals + knowledge I would when deciding what foods to feed my body in order for it to be it's healthiest + most vibrant.
When it comes to having the most beautiful, healthy + vibrant skin, my #1 recommendation is hydration. This time of year, hydration tends to pop up as a way to care for skin in the Autumn + Winter seasons. But skin hydration is my go-to all year 'round for so many reasons.
While the plumping effect hydration has on skin looks + feels great, there's so more to what goes on beneath the surface that contributes not only to how our skin looks, feels + functions now, but also in the future. How your skin is nourished now (and your soul, too) will become visible in the coming weeks, months, years.
The water content of skin (and our whole body) is responsible for carrying water soluble nutrients to our tissues + cells, where they can be utilized in skin's healing, protecting, maintaining + regenerating functions. Functions like repairing damaged tissue, protecting us from environmental aggression, flushing out toxins. Also producing + maintaining collagen (holds skin together, makes it strong + plump) + elasticity (keeps skin pliable, allows it to bounce back into shape).
Oil also plays an important role in nutrient absorption + moisture balance. When skin is hydrated, our natural oils stay fluid, moving through our tissues + pores with ease, rather than clogging + becoming stagnant. Oil soluble nutrients can reach where needed, lubricate skins surface, create a protective barrier, and make skin soft + moisturizer while excess, oxidized oils are free to exit the pores to be rinsed away.
This is why I love oil cleansers + hydrating nutrient mists so much, and I use them all year. So, I'm going to break down exactly what I do to keep my skin hydrated + nutrients flowing to my cells.
